What You Can't Sell on Etsy — Prohibited & Restricted Items
Etsy allows handmade, vintage (20+ years), and craft supplies — but a number of items are prohibited or restricted, and listing them can get a listing removed or a shop suspended. Here's a practical overview of what to avoid.
Commonly prohibited or restricted items
- •Dangerous or regulated goods — weapons, certain chemicals, recalled products.
- •Items that infringe intellectual property — counterfeits, or unlicensed use of brands, logos, or characters.
- •Regulated health, cosmetic, and food items beyond what Etsy and your local law allow.
- •Hate items, illegal items, and anything against Etsy's prohibited-items policy.
The handmade / vintage / craft-supply rule
- •Items in handmade categories must be made or designed by you — pure reselling isn't allowed there.
- •'Vintage' means at least 20 years old.
- •Craft supplies must be tools, ingredients, or materials for making things.
Before you list
- •Check your item against Etsy's Prohibited Items and Handmade policies.
- •Remove brand names, logos, or character references you don't have rights to.
- •Avoid medical or exaggerated claims for health, cosmetic, or food items.
